Independents at the Insight Exhibition Offer Free Consultations for Buyers of Market Research

November, 2006 (London, UK) — A wide range of independent consultants will be available at the ICG stand at Insight 2006 to offer brief consultations with buyers of market research. The ICG (Independent Consultants Group) is the largest professional organization of independent market research experts and consultants in Europe.

States Tim Williams, Chairman of the ICG, "More than 300 independent consultants and agencies, each with on average 24 years of experience in market research, now comprise the ICG. At our stand we will offer ’ a gateway to a wealth of expertise‘ where more than 30 independent consultants and agencies will be represented. Our members will be able to discuss with buyers of market and marketing research what their needs are and how best to arrange research projects."

According to a recent membership survey, the average ICG member has now been independent for 10years – a figure which has been rising steadily since 2001. From the survey results, the average day rate for an independent consultant is £600+vat, although some consultants do charge more according to their levels of expertise.

The members survey also illustrates that well over two thirds of the members are specialists in some market sector ranging from Food/ FMCG, Financial and Healthcare/pharmaceuticals, to marketing activity (such as new product development); specific research techniques (such as customer satisfaction), and international research. According to the ICG members survey, clients, as in previous years, are more likely to be end clients, particularly commercial end clients, rather than intermediaries such as research or other agencies/consultancies.

Highlights from recent White Paper 'Market Research in the Wider World' also to be discussed at the ICG stand at Insight 2006

Results published last month from an online survey conducted by Ciao illustrates how users of market research value working with independent consultants in comparison to larger agencies. A White Paper, discussing the findings in detail, was released by the Independent Consultants Group (ICG) on www.indepconsultants.org and will be discussed and debated with journalists at the ICG stand during Insight.

Tim Williams, Chairman of the ICG, explains that the survey was conducted by Ciao in June 2006 among users of market research in their online panel. Williams states, "A key learning from this project is that the research industry needs to be more flexible and to adapt its skills as it moves away from the traditional Marketing client base. Clearly this is an area where independent researchers have developed their skills."
